The mission of public art is to encourage a sense of shared community and understanding of the area's heritage, pride of place for future generations, to visually enhance public spaces and to promote an appreciation for the visual arts.

Most of the current public art works were created between 1990 and 2000 under the auspices of the Antioch Civic Arts Program and community groups, such as the Antioch Friends of the Arts. Developers have also contributed to public art as a condition of approval to develop business and shopping centers, such as the water feature  under construction at the corner of Hillcrest Avenue & Lonetree way (click on link for larger photo).

CURRENT PROJECTS:
Hillcrest/Lonetree Assessment Public Art Projects:
The goal of the project is to commission 2-3 highly visible and accessible site-specific artworks in the Hillcrest Avenue and Lonetree Way Assessment Districts. The commissioned artworks will also compliment and ad to the existing artworks in the community. Consideration will be given for an artist or artist team for one or all of the sites to be determined in the second phase of the project.

Go to public art agendas for public art committee meeting information for the Hillcrest/Lonetree Assessment District Public Art Projects.
